Numerology calculator
Your life path, birthday, destiny, soul urge, personality and maturity numbers, plus your personal year and any karmic debt. Each result shows the reduction step by step, so you can check the arithmetic yourself.
The arithmetic runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent or stored.
How each number is calculated
Life path
From: Full date of birth
Reduce the year, the month and the day separately by adding their digits, then add the three results and reduce again. 14 July 1992: 1992 → 21 → 3, July = 7, 14 → 5; 3 + 7 + 5 = 15 → 6.
Birthday number
From: Day of the month
Reduce the day on its own. The 14th gives 1 + 4 = 5; the 29th gives 2 + 9 = 11, which is kept as a master number.
Destiny (expression)
From: Every letter of the full birth name
Give each letter its Pythagorean value (A=1 … I=9, J=1 … R=9, S=1 … Z=8), add them all, and reduce. John Smith totals 44 → 8.
Soul urge (heart's desire)
From: The vowels A, E, I, O, U
Add only the vowels and reduce. In John Smith that is O (6) + I (9) = 15 → 6.
Personality
From: The consonants
Add only the consonants and reduce. In John Smith they total 29 → 11, a master number.
Maturity
From: Life path and destiny number
Add the life path to the destiny number and reduce. Life path 9 plus destiny 6 is 15 → 6. It needs a name, so it appears once you enter one.
Personal year
From: Birth month, birth day and the current year
Reduce each of the three and add them. Your birth year plays no part. The result changes every 1 January; the personal year page lets you look up any year.
Karmic debt
From: The totals before they are reduced
If your birth day, your life-path sum or a name total passes through 13, 14, 16 or 19 on the way down, that number is flagged. 49 → 13 → 4 passes through 13.
Master numbers and the conventions used here
When a total lands on 11, 22 or 33 it is kept rather than reduced to 2, 4 or 6. Many modern numerologists read them as master numbers (some recognize only 11 and 22), a stronger and more demanding form of the digit underneath. Older sources reduce everything, so if you prefer that method, add the two digits of a master number yourself.
Y counts as a consonant. Accented letters are read as their base letter (é as E, ñ as N). Letters outside A–Z are refused rather than skipped, because a silently shortened name gives a wrong total.
A plain note on what this is
Numerology is a symbolic system, not a science, and these readings are not predictions. The value people find in it is closer to a mirror: a vocabulary for strengths, habits and tensions you can test against your own experience and keep or discard.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my life path number?
Enter your date of birth above. By hand: reduce the year, month and day to one digit each by adding their digits, keeping 11, 22 and 33, then add the three and reduce again. The calculator prints each of those steps so you can see where the number came from.
Why does another calculator give me a different number?
Usually because of one of three conventions. Some sites add every digit of the date in one line instead of reducing the parts first, which can turn a master number into a single digit or the reverse. Some reduce 11, 22 and 33. And for name numbers, some count Y as a vowel. This site reduces the parts first, keeps master numbers, and counts Y as a consonant on every page.
Which of the five numbers matters most?
Most numerologists start with the life path, because the birth date never changes, and then read the destiny number beside it. The soul urge and personality numbers describe the gap between what you want and how you come across. The birthday number is treated as a minor talent rather than a theme.
Should I use my current name or my birth name?
The birth name, in full, for the traditional reading. A married or chosen name can be run as a second calculation, which the tradition reads as the life you are living now rather than the one you started with.
Can numerology predict what will happen to me?
No. The calculator does arithmetic, and the readings describe what the numbers symbolize in the Pythagorean tradition. People use them as prompts for reflection, much as they might use a personality questionnaire. Nothing here is a forecast, and nothing should replace your own judgment on a real decision.
