How to calculate your rising sign
Enter the local time recorded at your birth, then select your city from the available list. The ascendant depends on the horizon at that location. If your city is missing, a nearby city provides an approximate result; a different latitude or longitude can matter near a sign boundary. Without a birth time, this tool cannot determine your rising sign.
Check the UTC offset for your birth date before calculating. The daylight-saving checkbox adds one hour, so leave it unchecked if your entered offset already includes that adjustment. For example, 14:00 local time at UTC+2 is 12:00 UTC. A boundary warning indicates that small input differences may change the sign; it does not measure all uncertainty in an approximate birth time.

Your rising sign, or ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was climbing over the eastern horizon at the moment and place you were born. It helps orient the houses of a birth chart; in whole-sign houses, its sign becomes the first house. Astrologically it describes the arrival: how you come across before anyone knows you, and the approach you take to anything new.
Why do I need my exact birth time?
Because the ascendant is tied to the rotation of the Earth rather than to the movement of a planet. The rising sign often changes over a period of hours, but its speed varies with latitude and the part of the zodiac. If the calculated position is near a boundary, even a small time error can change the sign; a guessed time gives an uncertain answer.
Why does the calculator ask for my city?
The ascendant depends on where the horizon was, which means both your latitude and your longitude. People born at the same instant in different places can have different rising signs. Choose your city from the available list. If it is absent, a nearby city gives only an approximation. Check the historical UTC offset yourself: the city preset does not look up historical daylight-saving rules.
What if my country used daylight saving that day?
Check the total UTC offset that applied on your birth date. The daylight-saving checkbox adds one hour to the offset field. If you enter a total offset that already includes daylight saving, leave the checkbox unchecked. Historical rules can differ from the city preset, including shifts other than one hour; use the correct total offset directly in those cases.

Rising sign, sun sign and moon sign — what is the difference?
The Sun is the identity you build and recognise as yourself. The Moon is the emotional default underneath it. The ascendant is the doorway — the manner people meet first, which is often nothing like either of the other two. Descriptions of your sun sign that never quite fit usually fit your rising sign much better.
