Am I Psychic? A Reflective Checklist, Not a Diagnosis

No quiz, checklist or test can tell you whether you are psychic, because no psychic ability has been demonstrated to exist. What you can do is look at the experiences people commonly take as signs, such as strong hunches, vivid dreams or sensing moods, and consider other explanations for each. This page offers that list as a prompt for reflection. It does not diagnose anything.

Why a psychic quiz cannot answer the question

Most online psychic tests list statements such as I often know who is calling before I look, and ask how strongly you agree. Experiences like that are common, and the quiz has no way of checking whether your hunches were correct or only remembered as correct. A high score shows that you notice and remember coincidences.

There is also a well known effect that makes such results feel personal. In a 1949 paper the psychologist Bertram Forer described how he gave his students a personality description he said was written for each of them, and they rated it highly accurate. Every student had been given the same text, assembled from general statements. The same pull is at work whenever a result says you are sensitive, intuitive and sometimes misunderstood.

Experiences people count as signs, and another way to read each

This table sets each commonly cited sign beside a plain alternative. It is a list to think with and not a score to add up.

Questions worth asking yourself instead

Rather than asking whether you are psychic, a few other questions tend to be more useful and can be answered.

  • When I have a strong feeling, how often does it turn out right when I write it down first?
  • Do I remember my misses as clearly as my hits?
  • Are my best hunches in areas where I have a lot of experience?
  • Do my impressions get stronger when I am tired, anxious or lonely?
  • What would I do differently if the answer turned out to be no?

What a fair look at your own experience might show

If you keep notes for a month or two, you may find that your impressions are better than guessing in some familiar areas and no better in others. That pattern is ordinary and it reflects how skilled judgement works. It might also show that your vivid experiences cluster around stressful periods, which is worth knowing for its own sake.

Whatever the result, you will have replaced a feeling with information. Some people find that more satisfying than a label, and others are happy to enjoy the idea without testing it. Both are reasonable ways to hold a belief.

The ability words you may have come across

Psychic circles use a set of terms for different claimed channels. Each has its own page with the history and the ordinary explanations.

  • Clairvoyance, claimed seeing of distant or hidden things
  • Clairaudience, claimed hearing of guidance with no source
  • Clairsentience, claimed feeling of other people's moods
  • Claircognizance, claimed knowing without a reason
  • Precognition, claimed knowing of what has not yet happened

If you would like to talk about what you have noticed

Some FateArc readers are happy to talk with people who are curious about their own intuition, and will share how they came to their work. They offer a perspective, not a verdict on whether you are psychic, and not a diagnosis. You choose which profile to read and whether to speak with anyone.

Frequently asked questions

Are online psychic tests accurate?

They are not able to measure psychic ability, so accuracy does not apply. They count your agreement with statements, and the results tend to be flattering for nearly everyone.

Does feeling intuitive mean I am psychic?

Not by itself. Strong intuition is a normal human trait that grows with experience. Whether any part of it goes beyond ordinary perception has not been shown.

Why do I get strong feelings about people I have just met?

First impressions form fast from small cues such as face, voice and manner. They are sometimes right and sometimes wrong, and you can only tell which by checking them later.

Can children be psychic?

Children often report imaginary companions, vivid dreams and strong feelings, all of which are normal at that age. They are not evidence of a psychic ability, and a child who is frightened by what they see or hear should be seen by a doctor.
