The Journey Changes: How to Adapt During Season Changes

I enjoy getting my hands dirty in the spring and early summer by growing flowers, herbs, and plants on my deck. I've been planning this balcony garden since the day I moved in October.

I walked out this weekend to sit on the balcony and see brown and yellow leaves on my arborvitae and flowers. It was crazy hot, and then it rained a lot. When you look at the surface, you can look at a plant and see dead leaves and think, damn it. I am bad at this. 

Patience is truly looking at the moment and seeing the growth.

Introducing Fern:

I purchased my arborvitae in April.  As I watch my arborvitae, I call it Fern, because I can not fix my mind around the fact that it isn't a fern. LOL, I do know better, but you convince my brain. I don't fight with it. I had some patience and named my arborvitae Fern to avoid what my brain often does to me.

I found out that it belongs to the conifer family however the plant buds are referred to as leaves too. As I examined it closely, the fern reminded me of an incredible lesson — that nothing can grow without leaving something behind. Are those two falling leaves worth less than the fantastic growth I see when I look closer at it? There are over ten clusters of buds in just one area. Yet on the surface, I could only focus on the lack of growth. What a lesson.

I have only had Fern since April 6th, and I felt disappointed that he has not grown. But the reality is I could be more wrong.  As humans, we seem to have a blind slide if we do not get Amazon's instant gratification. Real growth takes patience, and when you have no connection to it, you usually forget the item instantly.

Growth takes time and requires shedding to move ahead. I need to keep repeating it myself, or I will overwater them. 😊
